The Power of the Word of God

Luke 4:32 – And they were astonished at Jesus’ doctrine: for his word was with power.

1. Regenerating Power:

Romans 1: 16 – For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;

1 Peter 1:23 – Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

James 1:18 – Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

2. Transforming Power:

1 Thessalonians 2:13 – For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you received (embraced) it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works also in you that believe. (cf. Acts 20.32; Ps. 19.8; 1 Pet. 1:22)

Hebrews 4:12 ‑ “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two‑edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (John 3:5; John 17:17‑19; Eph. 5:26; 2 Timothy 3:16; Romans 12:2).

3. Keeping Power:

Hebrews 1:3 ‑ Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

4. Defensive Power:

Matthew 4:4 – But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5. Offensive Power:

Ephesians 6:17 ‑ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Mat. 4.4‑10; Rev. 12:11; 1 John 2:14; Mat 8:16; Luke 4:32)

6. Healing Power:

Psalm 107:20 ‑ He sent his word, and healed the and delivered them from their destructions.

Matthew 8:8 ‑ “but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

7. Comforting Power:

Romans 15:4 – For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

8. Convicting Power:

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

9. Deliverance Power

Luke 4:36 – And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

Matthew 8:16 ‑ When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with [his] word, and healed all that were sick.
