Definition of the Amalekites: They were the people who robbed Israel from their godly blessings. For N.T. Christian, they are the spirits stirring up the carnalities of the believer, (the uncrucified flesh of the believer), to rob and plunder them from their spiritual blessings and victories in Jesus Christ.

Character Of The Amalekites

  • Ø Descendents of Esau – Gen. 36:12, 16
  • Ø Wicked – 1 Sam. 15:18
  • Ø Oppressive – Judges 10:12
  • Ø Warring plunderers, cruel and merciless- 1Sam. 15:33
  • Ø Without fear (respect) for God, neither for His people – Deut. 25: 18

Governed by Kings – 1 Sam. 15:20,32

A powerful and influential nation – Num. 24:7

Possessed cities – 1 Sam. 15:5

Country Of The Amalekites

  • Ø In the south of Canaan – Num. 13:29; 1 Sam. 27:8
  • Ø Extended from Havilah to Shur – 1 Sam. 15:7
  • Ø Was the scene of ancient warfare – Gen. 14;7
  • Ø Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley- Num. 14:25

Joshua, Moses, Aaron and Hur and the Amalekites

Amalekites were the first to oppose Israel – Ex. 17:8

Discomfited at Rephidim through >the intercession of Moses< – Ex. 17:9-13

> The intercession of Moses; supported by two of his leading men, consisted of the lifting of the rod of authority, with his arms outstretched Moses formed a resemblance of the Cross, standing upon the hill overlooking the battle clearly in view for the fighting Israelites to see from the valley below. The spirits that once moved the Amalekites still roam among mankind invading and attacking believers till the NT Remnant will fulfill the promised destruction of the Amalekites- Ex. 17:14
